It’s important to be sure that a client chooses to work with a professional who has many years of successful client work in order to address significant and complex behavioral, emotional, relational, health, and life challenges.
Many practitioners in the healing professions have inspiring stories of challenges they’ve come through that led them to their work. I do ~ I’ve experienced several events,even catastrophic such as losing everything in a natural disaster and becoming homeless in a city where I was new and knew no one. I lost everything and almost my life being seriously injured. I experienced a corporate shooting massacre with seven people shot and three killed. Anda serious car crash where I was disabled for four years and told I’d be in a wheelchair the rest of my life. I am fully mobile and vital. Also I formed an elaborate escape plan from a dangerous partner who was systematically trying to kill me. This photo is the day I re-entered Oregon after recovering for two years from the natural disaster to come home.
When it comes to inspiring stories through challenges, my life is likely one of the most inspiring that you’ll hear. While this may be the case for practitioners, it’s actually less about what was experienced and more about the Wisdom and Skills that came through those experiences. The unique insights gained through trials and catastrophes are very valuable if transformed into highly refined wisdom and skill. However it's not just about experiencing hard times. Along with this, it’s necessary to hold length of professional experience in their chosen field, unless it’s a focus that is commonly taught to beginner’s not complex cases.
More and more individuals are seeking Hypnotherapists rather than or in addition to their licensed mental health therapists. Often the cases are multilayered and complex, although a beginner in her or his practice may not realize. The straightforwardness to a client’s challenge and the best ways to help her/him often lie in far more than what is first presented. There are layers that a seasoned professional will recognize.
For example a client may come to me for a sleep challenge,and a practitioner with one or two years experience might proceed with simply that focus. However there are almost always more layers in their life and circumstances, their history, and their mind that lead to this challenge. Without extensive professional experience with many clients, this may be overlooked and what is considered to be a solution may be only temporary because the reasons in depth have not been realized, addressed, transformed and healed. Temporary relief can leadt o even more extensive challenges when the keys in the many layers are not recognized.
There are excellent practitioners in every field with more recent establishment in their field. Yet it’s important to be sure that whomever a client is working with has many years of successful client work in order to address significant behavioral, emotional, relational, health, and life challenges. This is one of the questions a clients need to ask when interviewing practitioners on their experience. Just an inspiring story is not sufficient.
